E-mail Print PDF

Herbal medicines have benefited man in various ways. Not only are they cheaper, they are also natural and safe to use. Today the use of herbal medicines is not only limited to humans, but are also for animals. This is because if herbal remedies are good for humans, why not animals too. With this, pet herbal remedies have gained some following from pet lovers.

In current times, the use of herbal remedies is growing rapidly, especially in the United States. The food and drug supplement industry generates more than $1.5 billion dollars annually in sales of such products. And with the increasing use by pet owners to treat illnesses of their pets, herbal remedies are expected to gain more popularity.

Below are some examples of pet herbal remedy combinations you can use to treat a specific condition in your pet. We all love our dogs, our cats, our birds, our fish, or what have you. And we only want what’s best for them. Some prescription drugs can cause a variety of interactions in our beloved animals, and we don’t want that. So here are some herbal alternatives to those drugs:

Poor Appetite

For pets with poor appetite, you can use malted kelp as a pet herbal remedy. A seaweed kelp is used as an additive and thickener in most food products, such as ice cream, jelly, and toothpaste. Give the treatment about half an hour before giving a small meal.

Inflamed Anal Gland problems

The common pet herbal remedy treatments for inflamed anal glands are garlic and fenugreek. Both herbs are strong antibiotics that fight off infection-causing bacteria. Garlic, when crushed or finely chopped, produces salicin with antibiotic and antifungal properties.

Arthritis

Some pets also suffer from arthritis, that disorder in the connective tissues, especially the joints and ligaments. Arthritis is very painful. To relieve your pet’s pain, you can use garlic and fenugreek as a pet herbal remedy. Fenugreek has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties to help dispel the pain.

If you’ve tried these herbal pet herbal remedies, and still the signs persist, or the condition gets worse, you need to seek veterinary attention. As a general rule of thumb, it is best if you consult a veterinarian first before starting with pet herbal remedy products. This is to safeguard the health and life of your pet.
